Not even Corona could stop this tradition: as every year, the Berliner Philharmoniker and its chief conductor travelled to the Salzburg Festival after the season opening in Berlin to perform two concert programmes – naturally in accordance with the current hygiene regulations. On the first evening, Kirill Petrenko conducted Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht and Johannes Brahms’ Fourth Symphony. The second concert featured Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 1 and the Third Piano Concerto by Ludwig van Beethoven with Daniil Trifonov as the soloist.
It was a special year for the festival: the Salzburg Festival, where the Berliner Philharmoniker have been a regular guest since 1957, celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2020.
