At its meeting on 2 February 2024, the Board of Trustees of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation approved the extension of Andrea Zietzschmann’s contract as Artistic Director. She will lead the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation for a further three years, until summer 2028.
Andrea Zietzschmann took the position of Artistic Director of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation in September 2017. The early extension of the contract guarantees continuity and stability for the foundation, the Berliner Philharmoniker, and the Philharmonie, with its Great Hall and Chamber Music Hall venues.
The Senator for Culture and Social Cohesion and Chairman of the Foundation Board, Joe Chialo, commented: “Andrea Zietzschmann is one of the leading personalities in the music industry, and it is wonderful that we can keep her in Berlin for another three years. Together with Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker, she forms a team that will ensure the excellence of the orchestra. The Berliner Philharmoniker is, and will remain, world class.”
Kirill Petrenko, chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker, said: “The extension of Andrea Zietzschmann's contract is very good news. We can now shape the long-term future, together with the orchestra, on the basis of what we have already achieved, and in the spirit of our close and trusting collaboration to date.”
Eva-Maria Tomasi and Stefan Dohr, on behalf of the Orchestra’s Board, said: “We are delighted that Andrea Zietzschmann’s contract has been extended for a further three years at an early stage. Our collaboration with her is characterised by mutual trust and appreciative support, especially in these particularly challenging times. Together with her and our chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, we can now continue to realise and pursue our future plans for the Berliner Philharmoniker.”
