It is with profound regret that Zubin Mehta has announced he must cancel his concerts from 19 to 21 October 2023 for health reasons. Fortunately, Gustavo Dudamel has agreed to take over as conductor for the concerts. The programme remains the same.
The Venezuelan conductor is music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and chief conductor designate of the New York Philharmonic. Since the age of 18, he has also headed the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela. He has enjoyed a close artistic friendship with the Berliner Philharmoniker since his acclaimed debut at the Waldbühne concert in 2008. In addition to his regular concert appearances, the orchestra has also repeatedly invited him for high-profile concert events: the Waldbühne concert in 2008 was followed by the New Year's Eve Concert in 2010, the 2012 Europakonzert in Vienna, and two more Waldbühne concerts in 2014 and 2017. He also accompanied the orchestra on its major tour of Asia in 2018.
