Cancellation of the concert performance of “Mazeppa”

10 May 2021

The concert performance of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s opera Mazeppa under the musical direction of Kirill Petrenko planned for next Friday can unfortunately not take place. Baritone Vladislav Sulimsky, who was to sing the title role in Mazeppa, cannot travel to Berlin due to a positive Covid 19 test result.

In the short time available, no suitable replacement could be found for the leading role in this extremely rarely performed opera, so the Berliner Philharmoniker and its chief conductor Kirill Petrenko have decided with great regret to cancel the performance and the associated live stream in the Digital Concert Hall.

The production of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s opera Mazeppa, originally planned for the Easter Festival in the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, was to be broadcast live as a concert performance from the Philharmonie Berlin in the Digital Concert Hall on 14 May 2021 at 19:00.
