Due to illness, the baritone Luca Salsi will no longer be able to sing the role of Iago in Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Otello which the Berliner Philharmoniker will present in a new production at this year’s Baden-Baden Easter Festival. The concert performances of the work in Berlin are not affected by his cancellation. Vladimir Stoyanov will take over the role in Baden-Baden.
Born in Bulgaria, Vladimir Stoyanov is one of the leading Verdi interpreters in his field, appearing at major international opera houses such as La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. He has portrayed the role of Iago on many occasions. Under the direction of Zubin Mehta, who conducts the Baden-Baden production of Otello, Vladimir Stoyanov most recently sang the role of Rigoletto in Florence.
