Due to illness, Genia Kühmeier has unfortunately been forced to withdraw from the Berliner Philharmoniker concerts with Christian Thielemann on 14, 15 and 16 December 2017. The soprano role in Ludwig van Beethoven’s Missa solemnis will now be sung by Luba Orgonášová.
Luba Orgonášová, born in Bratislava (Slovakia), is one of the leading performers of lyrical roles in German and Italian opera and the concert repertoire. Her first professional engagement following her piano and singing studies in her home town was at the Theater Hagen in 1984. In 1988, Luba Orgonášová received a three-year guest artist contract with the Volksoper Wien. In 1990, the soprano made a hugely successful debut at the Salzburg Easter and Summer festivals as Marzelline in a new production of Fidelio conducted by Kurt Masur. Luba Orgonášová performs regularly on the stages of the world’s major opera houses and concert halls, working not only with top international orchestras, but also with the foremost ensembles and specialists in the field of historical performance practice.
Luba Orgonášová performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker for the first time in September 1995, when she sang Agathe in concert performances of Weber’s Der Freischütz which was conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Most recently, she was a soloist in three concerts conducted by Sir Simon Rattle in September 2013; the programme included Leoš Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass.
