Awards for the Sibelius cycle with Simon Rattle

17 Feb 2016

The recording of the complete Sibelius symphonies with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle has had a tremendous reaction from the international music press. Recently, the recording has also received two prestigious awards: the release was awarded the prize in the “Symphonic Music” category at this year’s International Classical Music Awards. Plus, the edition entered the current Quarterly Critics’ Choice of the German Record Critics’ Award. The jury’s statement reads: “The conductor’s approach to the work is highly emotional, full of tension and rich in sound, yet clear in structure. The orchestra unconditionally follows the creative impetus of its chief conductor.”

The Sibelius Edition on the orchestra’s own label, Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings, was released in 2015 to mark the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth. It presents the symphonies not only on 4 CDs, but also on two Blu-ray discs as HD video, uncompressed audio resolution and DTS surround sound. The many product features include a comprehensive booklet and an extensive video interview with Sir Simon Rattle. The edition is available in our online store, the shop in the Philharmonie and from selected retailers.
