Award for Sir Simon Rattle’s Sibelius cycle

Award for the Berliner Philharmoniker and their chief conductor Sir Simon Rattle’s Sibelius cycle: At this year's International Classical Music Awards (ICMA), the recording of the seven symphonies of Jean Sibelius received the award in the “Symphonic Music” category. The jury said about the edition of the orchestra's own label Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings: “The Berlin Philharmonic’s Sibelius is characterized by the depth and power of a truly gorgeous orchestral playing. Simon Rattle’s reading is highly charged and dramatic, full of gripping contrasts, yet also provides sensual pleasure.”

The ICMA is among the most important awards in classical music and is awarded by an independent jury of leading European music magazines. The recording of the Sibelius symphonies with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle has already been recommended as an “artistically outstanding new release of the recordings market” by the German Record Critics' Award in its “Quarterly Critics' Choice”.
