06 Apr 2017

The Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings label has been awarded one of the most prestigious prizes in classical music. At the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA), the release of the last concert by Claudio Abbado with the Berliner Philharmoniker won the prize in the “symphonic” category. On the programme of the edition, which also includes a video and a high-resolution audio version in addition to two CDs, are Berlioz’ Symphonie fantastique and Mendelssohn’s music for A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The jury stated: “[Claudio Abbado] fascinates with imaginative interpretations full of power, joy and ardour, but also poetry and refinement.” Ulrich Knörzer, violist and member of the orchestra board of the Berliner Philharmoniker, accepted the award at a ceremony at the Leipzig Gewandhaus.
