On 14 October, the project EXPLORE CLASSICAL MUSIC! received a prize in the 2015 nationwide innovation competition “Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”. Since 2012, the Berliner Philharmoniker together with Deutsche Bank has awarded a year's free access to the Digital Concert to 500 schools and universities. In this virtual concert hall you can watch and listen to the orchestra's concerts in high definition or browse more than 320 video recordings in its archive. This opportunity has been taken up by more than 4,000 teachers and lecturers; more than 300,000 students have experienced performances by the Berliner Philharmoniker in this way as part of their teaching.
At the award ceremony in the foyer of the Philharmonie, Robert Zimmermann, director of Berlin Phil Media GmbH, said: “It is a wonderful experience for us to bring young people around the world in touch with the music of the Berliner Philharmoniker through the EXPLORE CLASSICAL MUSIC! initiative. We have received very positive feedback from the educational institutes we work together with on this project, and now the innovation competition "Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" has also given us the encouragement to continue on this path of music education.”
