Ana Durlovski replaces indisposed Simone Kermes as Queen of the Night

The soprano Simone Kermes has had to withdraw from rehearsals for the new production of the opera The Magic Flute at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden due to bronchitis. “I regret this very much,” said the Festspielhaus general manager Mölich-Zebhauser. He wishes the singer a speedy recovery and hopes to include her again soon in future programmes.

Ana Durlovski will replace Simone Kermes in the role of Queen of the Night. The Macedonian artist, who has already performed the role with great success at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Vienna State Opera, will sing the role for the first time at New Yorkʼs Metropolitan Opera in 2014. Ana Durlovski received the 2012 German Theatre Prize Der Faust for best singer-actress in musical theatre for her performance of Amina in Belliniʼs La Sonnambula, and is seen as a new “rising star” in her field. The premiere of this new Magic Flute is on Saturday, 23 March 2013. The production opens the new Easter Festival of the Berliner Philharmoniker in the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.
