Due to illness, the soprano Sibylla Rubens has had to cancel her appearances in the performances of Brahms’s German Requiem conducted by Christian Thielemann on 22, 23 and 24 January 2015. The soprano part will now be sung by Siobhan Stagg, who makes her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker.
The young Australian artist is no stranger to Berlin opera audiences: Within the last year she made her debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, and at the Berlin Philharmonie and Hamburg State Opera in concert performances of Werther under the baton of Donald Runnicles. Siobhan Stagg, a scholarship holder of the Patrons of the Deutsche Oper Berlin e. V., who sees the opera house as her artistic home, has also appeared as a concert and opera singer in Europe, Australia and the Far East. She was awarded the media prize at the Belvedere Singing Competition in 2014. Christa Ludwig has described Siobhan Stagg’s voice as “one of the most beautiful I’ve ever heard”.
