Concerts with the Berliner Philharmoniker
Outstanding soloists are being featured in the concerts of this series: Evgeny Kissin plays Mozart’s inspiring Piano Concerto No. 23, Lisa Batiashvili performs Szymanowski’s First Violin Concerto and Antoine Tamestit plays Jörg Widmann’s Viola Concerto. The conductor Eun Sun Kim makes her debut with works by Schoenberg and Rachmaninoff – one composer driven by innovation, the other steeped in nostalgia. Symphonies by Mozart and Brahms bookend a showpiece of the Second Viennese School, Alban Berg’s Three Pieces for Orchestra, in a concert with Kirill Petrenko. Honegger’s oratorio Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher’s innovative combination of spoken word and singing has earned it a similarly prominent position in modern French music.
