Concerts with the Berliner Philharmoniker
Andris Nelsons turns his attention in Series D to two audience favourites: Strauss’s Don Juan and Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony; chief conductor Kirill Petrenko presents a world premiere as well as a 1993 Berliner Philharmoniker commission – Kurtág’s uncompromisingly intense orchestral study Stele; Jakub Hrůša offers Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, seldom performed in spite of its great beauties; and Daniele Gatti interprets powerful works on the themes of love and death. In addition, there will be two debuts: pianist Beatrice Rana, celebrated for her poetry and passion, introduces a Romantic rarity, the Piano Concerto by Clara Schumann, while Hannu Lintu conducts Sibelius’s mysteriously evocative Seventh Symphony.
