There is something for the whole family at this event: in addition to the various concert appearances in the main auditorium, the Philharmonie becomes a colourful place full of sound experiments, games and handicrafts, all based on the theme of “orchestra”. And of course there is a lot of music in different places, in the main auditorium of the Philharmonie and in the foyer! Whether young or old, everyone can discover the multifaceted nature of orchestral music and orchestral playing, experience something new or different, and try out instruments.
Young musicians on the big stage
A special programme item is the project Meet the SchoolOrchestra – the big meeting of Berlin school orchestras in the main auditorium which is a well-established event in the education programme calendar. It regularly allows school orchestras to perform on the concert platform of the Philharmonie and to present the orchestral works prepared during the school year to a large audience. The highlight is the performance together of a piece they have all rehearsed separately under the direction of a renowned conductor. This year, we have engaged the services of Paavo Järvi to take over the leadership of this extra-large school orchestra. The presenter of the School Orchestra Extravaganza is the Philharmoniker’s horn player Sarah Willis.
Fun for everyone
At the end of the programme, the Family Concert takes place in the main auditorium in which the spectators will be actively involved in the events: Kim and Konrad meet the odd Kurt Murks during the summer holidays. Kurt collects all the rubbish and scrap which people drop everywhere in the old sawmill in the woods. Murks builds monstrous machines with this junk, and he brings these to life together with the audience. How strange they look and how funny they sound! – but what exactly does Kurt Murks want with these scrap robots ...?
