Series D
Kirill Petrenko conducts a work by Robert Schumann with the Berliner Philharmoniker for the first time – the composer’s Fourth Symphony – as well as radiant sacred music by Mozart. During two concerts, the orchestra continues its long tradition of presenting important works conducted by their composers. Along with Thomas Adès, Composer in Residence EsaPekka Salonen will conduct his own Organ Concerto and ballet music by Bartók. FrançoisXavier Roth’s programme includes atmospherically intense works by Debussy and Dukas; Alan Gilbert and Simone Young champion compositions by Dutilleux and Messiaen that are among the most exciting works of the 20th century.
