Series B
The Seventh Symphonies of Beethoven and Bruckner and Sibelius’s Fifth are among their composers’ most important and most popular works. In this series, they will be heard in programmes conducted by Herbert Blomstedt, Andris Nelsons and Mikko Franck. Violinist Joshua Bell returns to the Berliner Philharmoniker after a long absence, as does EsaPekka Salonen, who conducts his own music and two luminous works by Maurice Ravel. Kirill Petrenko’s November programme juxtaposes Mozart’s sensitive Violin Concerto No. 1 with a monumental symphony by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, and Alan Gilbert devotes himself to Henri Dutilleux’s Second Symphony, which is composed quite unusually for a divided orchestra.
