Chief conductor Kirill Petrenko continues to demonstrate his commitment to musical rarities with Luigi Dallapiccola’s dramatically jarring short opera The Prisoner, and he devotes himself further to the core repertoire of the Berliner Philharmoniker, with Brahms’s Haydn Variations and Beethoven’s Eighth Symphony. Beethoven is also represented with a performance of his “Eroica” during a concert with Paavo Järvi. This series presents a musical trip around the world as well: Tugan Sokhiev conducts the atmospheric and tuneful music from Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake, there are works by the South Korean native Unsuk Chin and Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa, and Gustavo Dudamel presents a concert with music from North and South America.
