Concerts with the Berliner Philharmoniker
To open this series, Jakub Hrůša returns to conduct the Philharmoniker for the third time. After presenting mainly Czech composers in his previous concerts, he now conducts Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony and a new work by the Austrian Olga Neuwirth. In February, Kirill Petrenko continues his exploration of Josef Suk and Johannes Brahms. While Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto features András Schiff, a long-standing friend of the orchestra, conductor Gustavo Gimeno and violinist Augustin Hadelich celebrate their Philharmoniker debuts in October with a Russian programme. Sir Simon Rattle presents rarities by Antonín Dvořák, and Daniel Barenboim conducts works which include an orchestral version of Verdi’s only string quartet. The last concert in the series, conducted by Kirill Petrenko, exclusively features works by persecuted Jewish composers.
