“Without music, everything would be nothing,” Mozart is supposed to have remarked. In our new subscription for families, children from the age of six and their parents or grandparents can enjoy the inexhaustible wealth of classical music in four concerts with presenters. From world-famous masterpieces to unusual sounds for large symphony orchestra and chamber ensemble, the approximately one-hour programmes offer exciting insights into composition and sound worlds.
At the beginning of the season, the fairy-tale ballet The Firebird transports the audience both young and old to the garden of the dangerous sorcerer Kastchei, who holds 13 princesses captive. Will it be possible to free them? The Berliner Philharmoniker with chief conductor Kirill Petrenko bring the mysterious firebird to life with powerful sound of the full orchestra. In Jingle Bass Rock, the instruments which create the lowest sounds guarantee a festive mood. Horn player and presenter Sarah Willis, together with her colleagues on double bass, contrabassoon, bass clarinet, tuba and trombone, presents both Christmassy and popular themes as you’ve never heard before: waltz sounds from Tchaikovskyʼs ballet music for Sleeping Beauty, the elephant from Saint-Saëns’s Carnival of the Animals, Manciniʼs Pink Panther and much more.
Imprisoned in a paradise garden, Iolanta doesn’t know that she is blind. Excerpts from Tchaikovskyʼs opera of the same name bring the story of the young woman who is healed by the power of love to the concert stage. The series concludes with Pictures at an Exhibition in an arrangement for brass, timpani and percussion. The perfect Sunday music for young ears!
The Berliner Philharmonikerʼs education programme has been made possible by Deutsche Bank since its inception in 2002. The aim of both partners is to make the work of the orchestra accessible to a wide audience and to encourage young peopleʼs interest in classical music and singing.
Our Education series can only be purchased in writing via our subscription office. Please note that at least one children's subscription must be booked per order for the FK series. Children should be accompanied by at least one adult.
