International Chamber Orchestras

The Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra are among the best chamber orchestras in the world. They cultivate a sound that is nuanced, transparent, and at the same time full of energy. What also sets them apart is that they perform exciting programme concepts with leading conductors and soloists.

The Mahler Chamber Orchestra’s first concert is part of the Mozart Momentum 1785/1786 project, which the ensemble is performing together with pianist Leif Ove Andsnes. The programme includes the Piano Concertos No. 23 and No. 24 as well as the “Prague” Symphony: works that were all written around the time of Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and whose conception was influenced by the opera. Patricia Kopatchinskaja, 2021/22 Artist in Residence, is not only a gifted violinist, but also an artist who does not close her mind to the pressing problems of humanity. Les Adieux is the name of the programme she presents together with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, with which she wants to draw attention to the relentless progress of the extinction of species. How much longer, she asks, before we have to say a final goodbye?

The Chamber Orchestra of Europe, in turn, performs works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in this series with Sir András Schiff. The Hungarian pianist and conductor has a long-standing artistic bond with the orchestra. “The collective intelligence and sensitivity of this group is admirable,” says Schiff. “Together, they represent the essence of Europe, EU politicians could learn a thing or two from that.” Robin Ticciati, who conducts Beethoven’s “Pastoral” and Dvořák’s Cello Concerto (with soloist: Jean-Guihen Queyras), also feels it is a privilege to work with the ensemble, which has no technical limits and is free of convention: “In the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, everything is about the music. It always comes first.”
