Original Sounds

Three great ensembles of Early music are guests of series R: Jordi Savall, gambist, ensemble leader and tireless discoverer of forgotten music, undertakes a musical journey through Baroque Europe with his ensemble Hespèrion XXI and shows just how networked musicians were even at that time. In their programme “Muera Cupido – Die, Cupido!”, soprano Nuria Rial, Fahmi Alqhai and his Accademia del Piacere revive music from operas and zarzuelas by Sebastián Durón, a composer who successfully combined Italian and Spanish styles. Finally, countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński and the ensemble Il pomo d’oro trace the different varieties of love in arias by Handel, Cavalli, Bononcini and others.
