The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and its chief conductor Luigi Gaggero delighted us last season with their irrepressible musicality. For this year’s guest performance, they present us with a Classical-Romantic programme: it opens with the Fifth Symphony of Mychajlo Werbyzkyj, a Ukrainian composer who follows the tradition of early Romanticism and is the creator of his country’s national anthem. We will also hear Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Schumann’s sumptuous Cello Concerto with Ludwig Quandt, first principal cellist of the Berliner Philharmoniker, as the soloist.
