The Baroque was the era of the concerto, and Antonio Vivaldi one of the most experimental, innovative and successful composers in that genre. His concerto Il Proteo ò sia Il mondo al rovescio (“Proteus, or The World Upside Down”), which lends its name to this programme, suggests a musical picture puzzle of effects and tone colours. In this concert, violinist Amandine Beyer and the ensemble Gli Incogniti will present concertos by Vivaldi in which several solo instruments engage in a concertante competition – Baroque orchestral splendour in all its many facets.
