“Bird lives” – Tribute to Charlie Parker

Saxophonist and composer Charlie Parker is a legend. A genius at improvisation, with a virtuosic technique, and an innovator in rhythm and harmony, he revolutionized the jazz scene. The career of this musician – one of the founding fathers of bebop, nicknamed “Bird” – was brief. Charlie Parker was only 34 when he died, but his music lives on 103 years later with fresh interpretation of SWR Bigband’s Grammy-winning project Bird Lives. Through the co-arrangements by Artistic Director and multi-reed instrumentalist Magnus Lindgren and writing partner, double Grammy-award winning arranger and pianist John Beasley Parker’s music shines on in a new orchestral guise.
