In the music of the great Romantic lieder composer Franz Schubert, everything becomes a song – even his symphonies. Both his “Tragic”, a youthful work by the composer who was just 19 years old, and his “Unfinished” captivate with poignant, lyrical melodies. Britten’s Serenade for tenor, horn and strings is also full of lyrical sensitivity. An ideal programme for the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, which is one of the leading chamber orchestras of our time thanks to its transparent yet nuanced playing. The young Austrian Christoph Koncz conducts instead of an indisposed Joana Mallwitz.
