For Frank Peter Zimmermann, Beethoven’s ten violin sonatas are the violin’s New Testament – an inexhaustible source of inspiration, as well as a challenge and a joy. Each one of them is a fascinating musical cosmos of its own and shows what an exciting development the composer underwent in this genre. “The more I study the sonatas, the more insight I gain,” the artist says. “As a violinist, I am very grateful to Beethoven for these works”. Together with the pianist Martin Helmchen, Frank Peter Zimmermann presents us with a selection of these violin sonatas.
