Family Concert

Mussorgsky’s tone poem Pictures at an exhibition is with good reason one of the most popular works of classical music. Inspired by the paintings of a friend, the Russian composer created a musical picture gallery filled with magical sound effects. Regardless of whether his subjects were children playing in the Tuileries, unhatched chicks dancing in their shells or the wicked witch Baba Yaga, Mussorgsky depicted them strikingly in music. During our Family Concert, which features an arrangement of the work for brass and percussion by Elgar Howarth, artist Filip Markiewicz and actress Leila Lallali interpret Mussorgsky’s music in moving images, thus creating an entertaining audiovisual Gesamtkunstwerk.
