Kirill Petrenko and Daniil Trifonov at the Waldbühne
The Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko end the season in the Waldbühne with vivid Russian colours. Sergei Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto is sometimes yearning, sometimes rebellious. Star pianist Daniil Trifonov is the perfect interpreter to bring out both the vehement virtuosity and the fragile delicacy of this music. Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition is also on the programme. In rapid succession we experience scenes of tremendous force and richness, from a droll ballet of chicks to the grotesque hut of the witch Baba Yaga.
