Daniil Trifonov plays Bach’s “The Art of the Fugue”

The music of Johann Sebastian Bach is close to Daniil Trifonov’s heart. During our Piano series we will hear the Russian star pianist in an all-Bach programme, with one of the most challenging works composed by the cantor of St. Thomas’s church in Leipzig: The Art of the Fugue. According to Trifonov, this is music which – although it was conceived mathematically and contrapuntally – must also “soar”. Bach’s work sounds fittingly buoyant, transparent and playful under his fingers.
