Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic

Homage to Charles Mingus

His instrument was the double bass, his models, Duke Ellington and the ecstatic gospel singing of the Holiness Church. Charles Mingus was one of the most original, creative and eccentric jazz musicians of the 20th century. As double bassist, bandleader and composer, he developed an unmistakable sound that was influenced by hard bop, free jazz and classical music. His style and his way of making music still inspire many jazz musicians today. At this concert, leading European musicians recall Charles Mingus, who would have been 100 years old this month.
