The term “bourgeois” (bürgerlich) occupies a prominent position in German political discourse. But what does it actually mean to be bourgeois nowadays? Is there still a bourgeoisie in Germany? Who belongs to it and who doesn’t? Or has “bourgeois” long since become a term of consensus? That would mean, however, that a word which should be suitable for everything and everyone ultimately stands for nothing. Jens Spahn (CDU) and Katrin Göring-Eckardt (Alliance 90/The Greens) discuss the subject with Jörg Thadeusz.
