Chamber Music Hall

The cello is the 2018 instrument of the year. To celebrate this event, the Landesmusikrat Berlin, in cooperation with the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation, is holding a “Cello Day” in the Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonie on 14 October. Starting at 12.30 am, the free programme offers cello-themed workshops, lectures, exhibitions and of course lots of music. In addition to the 12 Cellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker – who are patrons of cello year – other performers include students of the Musikgymnasium Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, young musicians from the Julius Stern Institute plus students from the two Berlin conservatories. Music schools will be present to provide information about their institutions to interested visitors, plus there is an unusual opportunity to watch instrument and bow makers at work who will be happy to answer any questions you may have. At the closing concert at 7 pm, students of Berlin University of the Arts and the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin perform again. Further information about the programme can be found at www.landesmusikrat-berlin.de/Projekte/Instrument-des-Jahres.
