Karajan Academy

The Karajan Academy at the Esterházy Court

The Esterházy family was not only one of the most important and influential royal houses of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy, but also an important patron of the arts. Joseph Haydn, for example, owed much of his compositional development to the ideal artistic conditions which his long-standing service at the Esterházy court provided. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Schubert also profited from the royal house’s love of music. All three composers are on the programme of this concert with the Karajan Academy which is entitled Guests at the Esterházy Court. The conductor is Haydn specialist Marc Minkowski.
