The Creative School Orchestra first came together as part of the School Orchestra Extravaganza in January 2012. This season it becomes an independent project under the direction of the violist Martin Stegner and percussionist Raphael Haeger, and will take place immediately after the School Orchestra Extravaganza on 17 February 2013. It is aimed at musicians aged 14 to 20 years who are interested in exploring new ways of re-interpreting major symphonic works. The focus of the project is Dmitri Shostakovich’s Sixth Symphony. Which musical motifs can tell the stories that lie hidden within this work? Together with the two musicians from the orchestra, the instrumentalists will explore this question and develop their own methods of making, creating and understanding music.
