Philharmonic Discourse

Daniel Ender and Christoph Stölzl in conversation

The second in our Philharmonic Discourse series of talks is about the relationship between biography and self-dramatization, using Richard Strauss’s example. The composer seems to be an early prototype of a pop star, someone stylised his sheer existence to an event. But what is a “real” life story – and what is merely staged? The Strauss specialist Daniel Ender and the art historian, music lover and all-round erudite Christoph Stölzl will explore this question.
