Hansjörg Albrecht is playing Bach, more precisely the Goldberg Variations that Bach composed for his friend Count Hermann Carl von Keyserlingk, who suffered from insomnia and wanted the music of the cantor of St. Thomas’s Church to be played for him at night by his court musician Johann Gottlieb Goldberg. Originally composed for harpsichord, the work lends itself perfectly to a performance on organ with its manifold sound possibilities – particularly as Hansjörg Albrecht is regarded as a musical maverick and crossover artist among organists.
