European concert in Pafos with Mariss Jansons

Held in the open-air, the 2017 European concert offered an impressive view of the Byzantine castle of the Cypriot port city of Pafos. Mariss Jansons conducted, and Andreas Ottensamer was the soloist in Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto.

Wecome to Pafos/Cyprus, where our European Concert takes place this year. Today we started with a project close to our hearts: The Berliner Philharmoniker

celebrate with their annual European Concert the shared values of a united

Europe. On the occasion of the orchestra’s visit to Pafos for the 27th European

Concert, the orchestra has initiated the project #UnitedByMusic Youth

Orchestra Pafos 2017. Young musicians from all of the island of Cyprus

performed together with musicians of the Berliner Philharmoniker, united by the

universal language of music, Mozart’s Jupiter symphony under the baton of Stanley Dodds. The Berliner Philharmoniker wish to thank the

German Embassy in Nicosia for supporting this initiative and in particular the

musicians Nihat Ağdaç and Natalie Neophytou for their invaluable assistance in

organizing the event.
