In October 2014, the Berliner Philharmoniker and Simon Rattle had a residency in New York. The audience was deeply moved by Peter Sellars’ staging of the St. Matthew Passion, and the symphonic concert soloists included the violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, who has had close ties to the orchestra from her early youth.
