His father and grandfather introduced him to violin playing when Bastian Schäfer was five years old. After finishing school he studied with Igor Ozim in Cologne and Max Rostal in Berne. Alongside his orchestral duties, Schäfer plays in several chamber ensembles. In his free time he paints in oil and acrylic.
