Martin Kretzer learned the basics of trumpet playing at the age of twelve from his father. After studies in Braunschweig with Viktor Belkius, his career led him by way of the Kassel Staatstheater Orchestra and Hanover Staatsoper (1970-1973) to the Berliner Philharmoniker, where Martin Kretzer shone as principal trumpet for 31 years before stepping down to 2nd trumpet in 2004. He is a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Brass Ensemble and Brass Quintet, and has taught in the Orchestra Academy since its founding in 1978.
