Herbert von Karajan: for all lovers of classical music, this name has a unique ring to it. Karajan’s interpretations with the Berliner Philharmoniker set standards which endure to this day. From the end of June, outstanding film recordings of the conductor and orchestra will be released in the Digital Concert Hall, as media board member Olaf Maninger announced at the Berliner Philharmoniker’s annual press conference.
The recordings from the years 1966 to 1979 are taken from the catalogue of TV producer Unitel and document a particularly productive phase in the cooperation between the Berliner Philharmoniker and Herbert von Karajan, the 25th anniversary of whose death falls on 16 July 2014. The more than 30 videos include the complete symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms, as well as studio productions of Wagner’s Das Rheingold and Verdi’s Otello. The interpretations, filmed mostly in 35mm, will be available on the Internet in the Digital Concert Hall in HD for the first time.
