The Berliner Philharmoniker, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, are set to appear on 3D cinema screens around the world from May. The performance of Gustav Mahler’s First Symphony and Sergei Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances, filmed in 3D in Singapore's spectacular Esplanade Concert Hall during the concert tour of the orchestra in November 2010, is interspersed with pictures of the city and its people, specially conceived to be a visual complement to the music. As many as eight 3D and HD cameras were used in making the film, making it possible to employ completely new perspectives.
