Antonio Stradivari was and is still the most famous of all violin makers. His workshop was in Cremona in northern Italy. The sound of his violins made the man a myth. Stradivari experimented with different wood thicknesses and varnishes for years until he succeeded in giving his violins a tone that fascinates and inspires musicians and collectors all over the world to this day.
In this family concert, presented by Matthew Hunter, the Philharmonic Stradivari Soloists Berlin present the world’s largest collection of Stradivarius instruments in works by Thomas Tallis, Samuel Barber, Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Just how these works sound on the instruments of Berlin high school students which they have made in workshops with the violin maker Janine Wildhage, adds another fascinating aspect to this family concert.
