Introduction: 19:00
Baroque music has always played an important role in Anna Prohaska’ s repertoire: “I like this music because it allows me as a singer plenty of room for creativity. I can form ornamentations freely and also incorporate my own interpretation. Baroque music is very emotional and has a special drama which I can exploit well with my voice without having to distort it. I can’ t find such a broad repertoire in any other era.”
The soprano, who comes from a distinguished Viennese family of musicians, studied at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler in Berlin. In 2002, she made her debut at the Komische Oper in Harry Kupfer’ s production of Britten’ s opera TheTurn of the Screw. After Anna Prohaska stepped in at short notice to take over the role of Frasquita in a performance of Carmen at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, she was immediately taken on as a member of the ensemble. As a concert singer, she has been performing together with the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2007, with Sir Simon Rattle and Claudio Abbado at the conductor’ s stand.
For her concert with the new British ensemble Arcangelo, Anna Prohaska will present works by Henry Purcell, Jan Dismas Zelenka, Antonio Vivaldi and George Frideric Handel. The concert will be conducted by the artistic director of Arcangelo, the cellist, keyboardist and conductor Jonathan Cohen.
