Education
Zukunft@BPhil - Services

For school classes
Zukunft@BPhil is closely tied in with specific concerts given by the orchestra. The heart of the education programme is formed by its creative projects, which are primarily directed towards Berlin’s schoolchildren. Based on the thematic content of individual concert programmes, these projects are divided into series such as MusicART, MusicDANCE, SONGS etc., in which the participants can discover their own creative potential in various artistic forms, including music, painting, dance and poetry. Supplementing these creative challenges for older schoolchildren is the opportunity of a glimpse behind the scenes into the workings of a professional orchestra by attending selected final rehearsals.

For teachers
Another aim of the education programme is to offer stimulation to teachers and multiplicators: by means of Free-of-charge Advanced-Training Workshops the director of the Education Department, Catherine Milliken, and her guests present new approaches to creative music-making in teaching situations.

For young musicians
Two exciting forums are offered by Zukunft@BPhil every year to committed young musicians and aspiring composers: the School Orchestra Extravaganza and the Student Composers Competition.

For families
The Berliner Philharmoniker Family Concerts are directed towards the entire family as musical occasions that bring the generations together. These moderated chamber-music concerts offer an opportunity to learn about the musicians, their instruments and selected works from the musical literature. Another undertaking that offers approaches to music spanning the generations is the annual large-scale dance project, which culminates in two performances in the Berlin Arena in the district of Treptow and this year will be presented in combination with one of the Family Concerts. The so-called Cross Points (Begegnungen), connected with the Berliner Philharmoniker’s chamber-music series “Alla turca”, offers an intercultural dialogue in the form of workshops for entire families and other young people.

For small children
The project KlangKIDS (MusiKIDS) was created to foster a love of music at as early an age as possible. Members of the Berliner Philharmoniker share their passion for music with the youngest members of our society through regular visits to Berlin’s kindergartens.

For social institutions
In addition, the Berliner Philharmoniker enable those who have not yet found a way of visiting the Philharmonie, or are no longer able to attend concerts, to partake in the joy of music. This takes place through musical excursions under the aegis of a partnership with Gropiusstadt, in the borough of Neukölln, and through the so-called “Kofferkonzerte” (Portable Concerts).
