Musik begeistert – da sind sich die Berliner Philharmoniker ganz sicher. Und sie möchten ihre Begeisterung an möglichst viele Menschen weitergeben, an die Kleinen wie die Großen. Aus diesem Grund veranstalten sie als Teil ihres Education-Programms regelmäßig Familienkonzerte, in denen sie sich, ihre Instrumente und ihre Musik auf unterhaltsame, spannende und informative Weise vorstellen.

Die renommierte Musikautorin Margarete Zander und der Illustrator John Harrison haben das, was die Berliner Philharmoniker in ihren Familienkonzerten vermitteln wollen, nun in einem Buch zusammengestellt. Das Ergebnis: eine musikalische Expedition durch die verschiedenen Instrumentengruppen des Orchesters. Dabei gibt es viel zu entdecken und zu erfahren. Beispielsweise wie aus den vielen Punkten, Strichen und Zeichen, die der Komponist auf weißes Notenpapier gebracht hat, Musik wird; wie ein Fischschwarm oder ein Zug klingt; oder wie lang ein Horn ist, wenn man es ausrollen würde.

Zum Buch, das im Schott-Verlag erscheint, gehören drei DVDs mit Mitschnitten aus den Familienkonzerten. Es ist zum Preis von 24,95 Euro im Shop der Philharmonie, im Onlineshop und im Buchhandel erhältlich.

Helping the individual discover his or her own creativity – this is the aim of the education programme of the Berlin Philharmonic. Since 2002, our varied education projects have enabled children and young people as well as people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds to find an active approach to classical music.

Now Catherine Milliken, director of the Education department since 2005, and Christine Mast have produced a book (in German) with the title Zukunft@Bphil in which the methodology of the orchestra’s educational work is explained along with detailed descriptions of ten projects from past years.

The result is a stimulating guidebook for music pedagogues seeking innovative approaches to the presentation of music. The projects covered in the book are suitable for the fifth to eleventh German school years. Also included in the publication is a DVD with audio-visual material taken from the individual project phases.
