Education

The second of the Mahler Project series in Amsterdam, after a successful opening at the Sydney Opera House in November 2010, will revisit the material and themes from the Third Symphony by Gustav Mahler. This creative project will be carried out with high school students from the Montessori Lyceum Amsterdam, Haganum Gumnasium and Vrije School Den Haag over a workshop-period of three weeks. Together with musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic and from the Muziekcentrum van de Omroep under the guidance of composer Catherine Milliken, the students create, arrange and structure their very own musical ideas based on Mahlers music, texts by Nietzsche, poems from the song collection Des Knaben Wunderhorn as well as their own texts.
The presentation of the students' work will take at the Grote Zaal in Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam during the orchestra’s concert tour on the 25th of February 2011 at 3 pm.

This project is a cooperation between the Berliner Philharmoniker Education Program, the Muziekcentrum van de Omroep, Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Goethe Institut Netherlands.
