Music in the museum

From 11:00 Temporary exhibition galleries Kulturforum, Kupferstichkabinett, Neue Nationalgalerie

Students of the Orchestra Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker play in the collections and exhibitions of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. With these brief musical interventions, visitors are encourage to look at artworks in a new way.

Organ walking tour with Cameron Carpenter

11:00 Musikinstrumenten-Museum

A promenade concert around the organs of the Berlin Philharmonie, the Musikinstrumenten-Museum, the St. Matthäus-Kirche and open-air with one of the most unconventional organists today: the Pennsylvania- born, Berlin-based musician and composer, Cameron Carpenter.

Instruments and venues: Mighty Wurlitzer in the Musikinstrumenten-Museum - the Karl-Schuke organ in the Philharmonie - the organ of St. Matthäus-Kirche, - digital organ on the open-air stage

Berlin music schools on show

Under the title diversity in the rhythm of the city, Berlin's music schools present themselves for a whole day with an extensive programme of a variety of musical genres.

The Venezuelan musician Edicson Ruiz, member of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2003, presents the diverse sonic possibilities of his instrument, the double bass, in a solo programme.

19:00 Piazzetta Kulturforum

New work by the New York composer David Lang for 1000 speaking, singing, shouting and whispering voices. Berliners of all ages and backgrounds are the participants in this special choir project of the Berliner Philharmoniker education programme. Artistic director: Simon Halsey, movement choreography: Jasmina Hadziahmetovic.

Carmina Burana

20:00 open-air stage

The Berliner Philharmoniker, the Rundfunkchor Berlin, the boys of the Staats- und Domchor Berlin, Sally Matthews, Benjamin Bruns, Christian Gerhaher and Sir Simon Rattle perform Carl Orff's Carmina Burana together with the children's choir of the new education programme “Vocal heroes”.
