Olaf Maninger studied first at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen with Janos Starker and Maria Kliegel, transferring later to Armin Fromm and Antonio Meneses at the Cologne Musikhochschule and then continuing his training with Boris Pergamenschikow and the Amadeus Quartet. After his final examination and graduate recital (1992) and winning prizes at several competitions, he began intensive concert activity.
Before coming to the Berliner Philharmoniker, Maninger was principal cellist for several months in 1994 with Frankfurt Radio (HR), the position he has held in Berlin with the Philharmonic since 1996. For a number of years he has represented the interests of his colleagues as a member of the orchestra’s Media Board. Olaf Maninger is also one of the »12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic«. Olaf Maninger has been general manager of Berlin Phil Media GmbH since 2008. In this capacity he played a significant role in the development of the Berliner Philharmoniker's Digital Concert Hall.
